Those who know me well know that I thrive serving behind the scenes, working to make sure all those little details are in place so that things run smoothly. It was a great joy for me to get to assist our ServeAsia team leader, Steve, in the area of audio and video at the conference.
We began each morning with worship, led by an incredibly gifted team from Grace Bible Church in Arroyo Grande, CA. They truly had such humble, serving hearts and took on so many additional tasks throughout the week. I had the privilege of running sound for them. And, small world – I learned that the worship leader’s brother lives here in Wichita, KS!
Beginning each day in worship, followed by teaching of the Word (from Philippians, specifically) set the tone for the rest of our time. With our hearts centered on JC, everything was done to glorify Him.
Other tasks for me included recording each of the sessions (including the afternoon workshops) and making sure workshop presenters had all of the audio/video resources they needed (projectors, sound, etc). Originally, I was set to be the primary photographer for the event as well, but the guest speaker’s daughter ended up borrowing my camera and taking the majority of the photos. She did an excellent job, and that freed me up to focus more on running sound for the event.
Being the tech guy for the conference provided a great on-ramp for getting to know the other Asia staff and for them to catch a glimpse of what my role will be on the ServeAsia team – media production! I am grateful for these opportunities and look forward to more to come.
