I (Dave) am incredibly grateful to G for all of our ministry partners who made it possible for me to attend the 2017 “Better Together” ReachGlobal Asia Division conference in Thailand and for all the prayers that made it such an enriching experience! An enormous amount of prayer and preparation went into this conference and the results truly displayed G’s faithfulness.
I will be writing several notes on this conference; this first one will be highlighting prayer. Our Asia division has several “Big Rocks” which are those things that we prioritize and are intentional about including in all aspects of our lives and ministry. One of those “Big Rocks” is prayer! In light of this, a variety of prayer activities were included throughout the conference.
Leading up to our gathering, a team of about 20 of us (myself included) signed up to pray for the conference, and we were each given the names of four to five couples/individuals to specifically lift up. We began and ended the conference by gathering in these prayer groups to intercede for one another.
All throughout the conference, a prayer tent was set up as a special place to pray individually or with a group. Maps, cards, notes and other resources were in the tent to help guide prayer for people, ministries and countries that we have the privilege of working with. A prayer directory was created and distributed to each attendee that included photos and basic information about each individual and family serving with RG in Asia.
Wednesday morning (midway through the conference) was our “Morning of Prayer”, which began with one hour of personal prayer and reflection. Our focus was from Philippians 2:1-4 – that we would be united for His Glory. This time included small group prayer and corporate prayer for unity and for specific world views that are represented amongst the people we serve.
Also throughout the week, prayer teams were available for intercessory or listening prayer. I was encouraged by the four prayer team members who spent time with me, listening to what HS was saying and praying for Sarah and me and our role in G’s mission among the nations.
Two talented women on our team led a workshop on developing our prayer lives through the expression of art. That evening, they led an open time of worship and prayer using art – many participated and I loved seeing art used in such a powerful and meaningful way!
I am so thankful that prayer is a strong value in RG that is not only talked about but truly done with intentionality! And I am so thankful for many of you who have committed to praying for Sarah and me – our ministry would not be possible without all of you!
“So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.” (Philippians 2:1-4)
