We’re so grateful to have had the opportunity to attend the EFCA Midwest District Conference this year, hosted by CCC in Leawood, Kansas. We’re also very grateful for the hospitality of my mentor and her sweet family during our two night stay.
The conference was a time of encouragement and challenge as the main speaker Aubrey Malphurs shared on strategic planning for the church in North America. It was also a privilege to hear from EFCA President Kevin Kompelien, who shared his heart and vision for the EFCA.
We enjoyed connecting with a few more ReachGlobal staff from the national office, too! Dave enjoyed lunch with them the first day of the conference while I joined all the ladies for the women’s luncheon speaker Sharlene Ortlund.
This is where I get a little more personal 🙂
When the conference program was released just before our travels, I was so excited to hear Sharlene would be speaking. She was described as someone who wants to ‘see people in ministry thrive and finish well’. And not only that, she had been with ReachGlobal since 1977 serving in Asia.
I gleaned so much from her as she shared on Psalm 23 and how it points to our Shepherd, Who is all we need. I took notes galore and look forward to processing more, but what stood out to me most was hearing:
“Passion for G, not passion for ministry”.
Because ministry comes and goes, but G is forever.
And whether we are in full-time ministry or not, this rings true, as we know how wavering life can be. But oh what peace, to walk with our Shepherd day by day and to find rest in Him alone!
During a connection time, Dave and I visited with Sharlene personally. It was a joy to laugh together and share our concerns. Her close walk with the Lord was so prevalent and admirable. We went away with our hearts full, and shaking our heads at how G knew exactly what we needed during this conference time.
Thank you so much for your prayers for our time in Kansas City. We hope it was as encouraging to you as it was to us 🙂
In the love of our Good Shepherd, Sarah Lynn
