Calling Series: Humble Beginnings

My mom gifted me with a beautiful journal late last year.

The bright covers sandwich fresh blank pages of possibility. I quietly resolved that this journal would be saved for something special.

Gifted journal, December 2015

January 2, 2015, was the big day, the day pen first hit the paper. My husband and I felt it was time to pursue full-time cross-cultural service and overseas film-making, and my special journal was officially dubbed to be just about that.

I’m embarrassed to admit, my first journal “entry” was actually a list! A list of possible ideas and anxious questions, peppered with hopes of mapping out what my husband and I were supposed to do about our calling.

I have wanted so badly to rip this first “entry” out, but I don’t. As I look back, it reminds me of Isaiah 55:8,

“‘For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways,’ declares the LORD.”

And that’s a good, humbling thing to remember in this journey of knowing and following our Father. It’s also something we’ll evidently see in this “Calling Series”, as we take a look back at life just before acceptance/pre-deployment.

Thanks so much for joining us, Sarah Lynn
